HELP STRENGTHEN FAMILY ENGAGEMENT IN SCHOOLS

California State PTA is proud to sponsor Assembly Bill 2878 (Chávez), which has passed through the Senate and the Assembly. We need your help to encourage Governor Brown to sign this measure into law!

This measure would simply add family engagement to Priority #3 (Parental Involvement) of the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF). LCFF Priority 3 calls for all school entities to provide active and meaningful participation and training for all families.

AB 2878 (Chávez) seeks to use research-based guidelines to define what constitutes authentic family engagement within the Education Code.

As school districts implement their own parent involvement activities and programs, AB 2878 (Chávez) would suggest practices such as: outreach in multiple languages, targeting families that are underrepresented in the school and/or school district and include program strategies that are diverse and innovative to reflect a modern student population.
