Suicide is a leading cause of death in the United States. To address this serious public health issue, the Biden-Harris Administration collaborated with key partners to release the 2024 National Strategy for Suicide Prevention (National Strategy) and Federal Action Plan. Four strategic directions guide the National Strategy:

  • Community-based suicide prevention
  • Treatment and crisis services
  • Surveillance, quality improvement and research
  • Health equity in suicide prevention

Looking for a way to take action? Contact your Senators today and tell them to support the Creating Access to Resources in Education (CARE) for Student Mental Health Act (S 4041) and address the critical shortages of school-based mental health professionals. The bill will authorize two key grant programs that support efforts to train, recruit and retain more school-based mental health professionals and increase access to comprehensive school mental health services.
